What is happening?
We launched a new Open LMS App. This app will look exactly the same as the old one but will allow you to use the push notifications for Android and iOS with a single configuration. Additionally, this new app will be part of the Open LMS roadmap to include new features.
Why is this being done?
The old Open LMS app has different identifiers in both stores causing issues in the new free push notification system.
- Android: com.mrooms.bbopen
- iOS: com.moodlerooms.moodleroomsmobile
The new app was uploaded to both stores with the same identifier: com.openlms.openlmsmobile
When this is happening?
This is the agenda:
- February 15th: We started deploying the new Open LMS App in the stores and we changed the names of the old Open LMS app to “old Open LMS App” in the Stores.
- April 28th: We will remove the “old Open LMS App” from the Stores. (The users would be able to still use it, but not able to update it)
- December 30th: Aligned with the 3.11 release, we will remove the push notification server for the old Open LMS App for Android and iOS.
How this would affect my users?
If your users are using the Open LMS App, they will find a new version with the name: old Open LMS. The new application is ready to download with the name Open-LMS, our recommendation is to ask your users to start using it as soon as possible, you can redirect them to the following page to download the app:
So, on December 30th, 2021 all users will lose all access to the old Open LMS Mobile App?
Not really, we will remove the possibility to download the old Open LMS App in the Stores on April 28th, but users with the old app installed could still use it as long as they do not delete this app from their smartphones. Eventually, they’ll need to move to the new one in order to have the latest versions of the Open LMS Mobile App and all the fancy new future features around it.
Is there any risk to lose information?
Not at all, the information is still on your platform, the mobile app only consumes information.
My institution is using a custom-branded App, is this affecting us?
No, this is only about the Open LMS app, any change here will not be reflected on any other customer’s app.
Why are we changing all the Mobile App stuff so much?
We are trying to improve our customer journey, and this new app would allow us to improve the push notifications experience. Also, we will have the opportunity to start integrating new features to the Mobile App making it part of our product roadmap.
